The 20th Anniversary story

Among the cigar companies that celebrated anniversaries in 2023, Tatuaje marked its 20th year in business, doing so with a number of new cigars, including a new line just for the anniversary.
The Tatuaje 20th Anniversary line uses an Ecuadorian habano-seed wrapper, and Nicaraguan tobacco is used for the double binder and filler. While Pete Johnson, owner of Tatuaje, hasn’t compared the blend to any of the blends in the company’s portfolio, it does use a similar list of tobaccos to that of the Seleccion de Cazador line, otherwise known as the Brown Label line due to the color of its bands, and which is generally thought of as the company’s signature core line.
Late 2023—after the Grande Mereville and Grand Chasseur had arrived on retailers’ shelves—the company added two more cigars, albeit very different cigars. The Tatuaje 20th RL22 and EL22 are different sizes and different blends, but they both fall under the company’s Escasos Collection, which is a loose series of higher-end cigars made by My Father Cigars Inc.’s Florida-based El Rey de los Habanos factory inside of its Doral, Fla. headquarters instead of in Nicaragua.
Both cigars were produced by just a pair of rollers, with the production completed in 2021. They sat in an aging room until May 2022—hence the 22 part of the name—when they were boxed and then placed back in an aging room until their release last November. In addition, the RL22 and the EL22 are both limited to 25,000 total cigars packaged in boxes of 25.
The Tatuaje 20th EL22 uses a Nicaraguan shade-grown corojo 99 claro wrapper, the same that is found on the Escasos line, over a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan fillers.
The Tatuaje 20th Miami Reserva RL22 is made with an Ecuadorian habano maduro wrapper covering a binder and filler blend made up of Nicaraguan tobacco.

CigarShare users' verdict

The Tatuaje 20th Anniversary delivers a peppery, earthy smoke with consistent notes of coffee, chocolate, and leather that provide pleasant complexity throughout the experience. While the cigar generally burns dependably, occasional draw resistance and burn irregularities prevent it from being entirely hassle-free.
